Monrovia and Pasadena met on Thursday to battle it out on the third day of the Dave Moore Tourney. Pasadena was able to fend off the Monrovia Wildcats and record their seventh straight victory of the season while handing Monrovia their second loss of the season.
Pasadena’s starting pitcher, Alvie Castro (#10), was the star of the game pitching all seven innings totaling 8 hits, 3 runs, 1 earned run, 1 walk and 7 strikeouts. Castro also had a solid night at the plate finishing two for four with a run and RBI, also recording 1 stolen base.
The Bulldogs, as a team, recorded a .346 batting average with 9 hits, 4 RBIs and 2 walks. Leading the way in hits was C. Zambrano (#6) who went three for four with two singles and a double. David Banuelos lead the team with 2 RBIS.
Monrovia displayed three different pitchers throughout the game, starting with J. Gomeztrejo (#16): 5 innings, 9 hits, 4 runs, 2 earned runs, 0 walks and 0 strikeouts. Turning to Chase Holst (#17) in the 6th who went .2 innings with 1 walk and 1 strikeout and ending with X. Castaneda (#23) who capped off the game with 1.1 innings and 1 hit, 1 run, 1 earned run, 1 walk and 1 strikeout.
Monrovia’s bats recorded a total of 8 hits with the highlight of the night coming from G. Arellano who recorded his first home run of the season in the 5th inning by hitting a ball over the left center fence and bringing the score to 3-4, in favor of the bulldogs, heading into the 6th inning.
The Bulldogs recorded their final run in the sixth when David Banuelos hit a popup into the outfield, which allowed Nate Mendoza (#5) to tag up and hand the Wildcats their 3-5 defeat.
