A block party has been planned for Saturday, Aug. 18 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the 500 Block of East Cypress. This Monrovia Area Partnership (MAP) party will be highlighted by the unveiling of a Neighborhood Treasure plaque in honor of Mrs. Kate Wright. In addition to the plaque, an art piece in honor of and representing her life will also be revealed.

In the early 1900s Monrovia was known for the great quality of its air and was recommended as a location for tuberculosis patients. Wright, who was known throughout the community as “Aunt Kate,” unselfishly worked for low income residents who suffered from TB. She asked for no payment or government assistance; she just wanted to help those in need.

In addition to the big reveal, there will be games, prizes, and lots of family fun. To RSVP to the event, call (626) 932-5563.
