Deputies Rescue Alleged Car Thief From Falling Over Third Floor Railing

An alleged car thief led deputies on a brief foot pursuit after crashing a stolen car last Tuesday.  During the foot pursuit, the suspect attempted to avoid apprehension by jumping over the third floor railing of a local motel.  The responding deputies reacted quickly and managed to hold her by one arm before she fell and eventually pulled her to safety, preventing her from falling three stories.

After the suspect was brought to safety, she was transported to a local hospital. Preliminary investigation indicated that the suspect was possibly under the influence of various narcotics. The rescue was captured on video.

The suspect is 21-year-old Destiny Ortiz. She is a resident of South El Monte.

Destiny Ortiz was arrested for Driving a Vehicle Without Owner’s Consent and a no bail warrant for Driving a Vehicle Without Owner’s Consent on an unrelated case.  She is being held without bail.
