According to Sgt. Burkhalter, who was the watch commander when the robbery took place, Monrovia police received the phone call alerting them to the robbery at Trader Joe’s came at 8:53 p.m. on Monday evening. Monrovia police responded immediately. The suspect had already left the location when units responded.

Witnesses reported that a Black man between 20 and 30 years old came into the store just before closing. He is described as being between 5-foot-8 and 6 feet tall and wearing either a black hoodie with a red logo or a red hoodie. All agreed he had a handgun and a black backpack. Brandishing the gun, he demanded the money from the safe.

After receiving the money from the safe, he left the store and was last seen driving westbound in the parking lot in a new or modern black Dodge Charger. Trader Joe’s has yet to determine the exact amount lost.
