The claws were out in this clash of the Wildcats, but it was ultimately Wilson (Hacienda Heights) that emerged victorious over Monrovia 2-0 in the second round of the boys’ soccer CIF Division 6 playoffs on Saturday.

Monrovia had put together a nice little run in this season’s playoffs before running out of gas against a Wilson squad that finished third in the Valle Vista League. Monrovia, who finished second in the Rio Hondo league with a 6-2-2 record, squeaked by Maranatha 1-0 in the Wildcard round on Feb. 5 before eliminating Environmental Charter 1-0 on Thursday.

Wilson, on the other hand, had a prolific first two rounds, scoring 11 total goals while also allowing none to defeat California Academy and Ontario Christian. Wilson’s tough defense carried over into its match on Saturday as Monrovia couldn’t get anything going up top.

It was evident Wilson had control of the game, which resulted in them getting two all-important goals that sealed Monrovia’s fate. The Wildcats of Monrovia were eliminated in the second round once again as they fell short last season to Oak Hill 1-0.
